Ahmad Alminnawi and Liesbet Geris, among other co-authors, have published a paper titled “TNF induces catabolism in human cartilaginous endplate cells in 3D agarose culture
under dynamic compression” in the journal Scientific Reports.

The study investigates how pro-inflammatory cytokines influence the mechanobiological response of human cartilaginous endplate cells. These cells were embedded in agarose carriers subjected to dynamic compression to stimulate anabolism, while simultaneously exposed to TNF to promote catabolism.
